Bodog Overview

Bodog was originally a sportsbook, horse book, and casino; operating since the mid 1990’s. They added their poker room in 2004, cultivating a huge success since then that continues to grow in numbers and popularity. Bodog is now known as the home of 2006 WSOP Main Event champion Jamie Gold. This should only further fuel the explosive growth of this online poker room. Traffic

Despite a huge internet presence (with the affiliate sports book and casino) and the notoriety of a WSOP champion, the traffic at Bodog isn’t quite up to what you would expect. At any given time, there are maybe 2,000-2,500 players playing ring games, with another 6,500 filling up seats in the real money tournament section. Tournaments

Bodog offers a fair number of tournaments throughout the day and week, although it is slightly lacking compared to other sites. Every week on Sunday, they host a $100k guaranteed tournament; with the ability to qualify or buy-in directly.

Software

Bodog Life recently launched their new and improved software at the beginning of the year. It is extremely fast, along with being smooth and easy to use. Graphically, there isn’t much, but in all, it definitely provides an enjoyable experience.

The software features the standard fare of options as most other rooms: you have the ability to use a 4 color deck, take notes on your opponents, pre-select actions, and change the card color and table felt color. You can upload a picture for an avatar, but it is very small in size and difficult to see for the most part.

Bodog allows you to play up to 3 tables at once, in full screen mode or in their mini-view. The mini-view is unique and gives you the opportunity to follow the action at any table easily while you look at another table or browse the lobby. The lobby, incidentally, is among the very best of any online poker room in terms of layout and speed.

A slight different feature at Bodog regards your hole cards. Even after folding, your cards are still displayed (but grayed out and semi-transparent), allowing you to see if you had folded a potentially winning hand.

Competition (Hard, Easy...)

The competition at Bodog is relatively easy due to the influx of players from their sportsbook, casino, and horsebook; along with the new players who want to sit with Jamie Gold. Many of the players there lack the basic concepts of the game and will only focus on their cards or prefer to gamble with any two cards. I’ve seen many a hand and a lot of money lost by people playing 2nd or 3rd pair all the way to the river in a short time at Bodog.
