2007 WSOP Entrants
July 10, 2007 on 9:01 pm | In WSOP, Poker News |The final total of the 2007 World Series of Poker is 6,385 players. In 2006, the main event field was 8,773 players, so it does look like recent legislation did have an effect on the number of poker players participating. There is still debate on whether it was the US legislation that caused this decline in players, or other factors that effected the number of entrants in 2007. It could be that 2006 was the peak of the WSOP main event and even if the UIGEA was not passed, there would still have been a dip in entrants. My feeling is that the UIGEA did have an impact and we are seeing a trend that will hopefully be reversed if the UIGEA is repealed.
