Is this another Chris Moneymaker in the making?

After earning the title of the highest ranked player on the poker website PaddyPower.com, Tomas Finneran is now set to compete in the poker championships of all poker championships, the World Series of Poker.

Finneran, a local from the town of Ballygar County in Galway, Ireland, finished in first place after besting over 100 qualified players in the Irish Open poker game. He won for himself free plane tickets to the gambling capital of the world, He used the plane tickets to travel to Las Vegas with his wife Cait and to get the chance to compete in the 2007 World Series of Poker, the granddaddy of all poker tournaments.

This Irish local’s story can be comparable to that of Chris Moneymaker. Chris Moneymaker became the face of online poker when he won the World Series of Poker in 2003. Just like Finnernan, Moneymaker started from playing online poker games. When Moneymaker eventually won PokerStars.com’s local online tournament, the website paid for his $10,000 entrance fee to the 2003 Main Event of the World Series of Poker. Moneymaker proceeded to win that year’s WSP tournament, winning for himself a cool $2.5 million and inspiring a trend in online poker playing all over the world.
