Poker or Investing, Which has more skill?

An article at blogging stocks an investing blog talks about the difference between playing poker and investing in stocks. They make the argument that the difference between trading Pink Sheet Stocks and playing a game of online poker is not much different but one is legal while the other is illegal. It also mentions the current legislation that Barney Frank has introduced to legalize online gambling and also how Harvard professors are trying to prove that poker is indeed a game of skill.

Another Take on the Situation:

In the stock market, if you know some insider information about a company and you invest in that company for economic benefit it is called insider trading and it is illegal. So that means you have to leave some of it to luck or it is illegal. How is this different from poker? If you know the odds and can read players this is not at all luck. It becomes a game of educated guesses,  everyone knows part of poker is luck but also that better players will win over time. Just like in the case of stocks, you can find out public information about the company with their financial statements and other resources but it is still an educated guess on the future of the company…sound familiar. I think that the people at blogging stocks had a great argument in that poker and investing are eerily similar.
