Harrahs will not accept WSOP advertising from poker rooms that allow US players

A decision recently by the Harrah’s compliance board have decided they will not accepting any advertising from poker rooms offering online poker for US players for the 2007 WSOP. They will not be able to advertise their .net (free poker) or anything of that nature shutting down advertising from Poker Stars, Full Tilt Poker, Absolute Poker and a couple others. Another intersting point about the decision is that they will allow poker rooms that don’t allow US players to play for real money. This means poker rooms like party poker, pacific poker and others who have recently closed their service to US poker players will be able to advertise. This still will be a huge hit to Harrah’s as they made the majority of their revenue from poker room sponsorships and will now have to scramble to find sponsers for the WSOP. This has not been made official by Harrah’s but has come from a dependable source that has been close to the happenings at Harrah’s. Hopefully the come to their senses and don’t decide to go through with this current policy but at this point that looks like the long shot. It will be interesting to see if this will affect the event as the WSOP has been getting bigger and bigger every year but it may be this year we will see a major decline to the tournament.
