Poker Stars 2008 WSOP Satellites and Qualifiers

Poker Stars has announced their 2008 WSOP satellites and qualifiers and they are looking to send the next main event champion. They have satellites running everyday and offer players a variety of options to qualify including cash qualifiers.

They have a 33R+ WSOP Qualifiers that runs multiple times a day and once a week run a $650 WSOP qualifier on sunday that usually qualifies around 20-30 players every time it runs.

Poker Stars also has their WSOP Steps satellites. This lets players play sit and go’s for as low as $7.50 for step 1 and make their way up to step 6 where it is a $2,100 buy-in and 1 players wins a seat to the wsop. One great thing about the wsop steps program is second place usually gets the same prize as first or in the case of step 6 gets $2500. Third and forth get buy-ins to the same event.

The last way to qualify for the 2008 WSOP with Poker Stars is to use your fpp and cash them in to play satellite tournaments. If you are a frequent player then you have the chance to get your seat at Poker Stars for Free!

Bodog Poker Open

Bodog Life will be running their first ever poker tournament series called the Bodog Poker Open. The tournament will consist of 6 events that will be played starting March 3rd and run through the 9th. They are doing it different then Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars where they don’t have any guaranteed money. They are just adding to the prize pool, every tournament at Bodog Poker will have $10k added until the main event on the 9th which will have $25k added. I am guessing this is to limit their losses in the case that they don’t have many players that play in their online tournament series. This may be a good time to play because there many not be many players and a large prize pool!

2008 WSOP Satellites at Bodog Life

Bodog Life has just released their 2008 WSOP Satellite tournaments and qualifiers. They will be sending 3 seats (per week) in Feb., 4 seats (per week) in March and 5 seats (per week) in May and June! This is about the time where poker rooms starting promoting the WSOP and unveil their qualifier schedule.

Bodog has satellites for as little as $1 dollar and direct buy-ins to the actual satellite tournament for $250+20. They also have tournaments where players can buy-in to super satellites using their Bodog Points which are earned playing in raked cash games and real money tournaments.

Gavin Griffin Borgata Classic Winner

The 2008 Borgata Classic came to an end today and the winner was Gavin Griffin who took home $1,375,609 and $25,500 seat in WPT Championship! Gavin Griffen bested a field of over 500 players and won in heads up play against David Tran.

The final hand of the poker tournament was Griffen with Jc-Qs against Tran’s Ks-8s. The flop was 9d-Ac-8d. Which Tran was in the lead but for a short time as the turn was a Qd. The river was a 10d and was no help to Tran who took second place and received $737,685.

The final 9 players at the final table in order of their finish was: Gavin Griffin, David Tran, Thomas Hare,Noah Schwartz,Lee Watkinson,Ervin Prifiti,Shane LaBounty,Justin Bonomo and Scott Blackman.

This is not the first big score for Gavin Griffen has also won events at the World Series of Poker and the European Poker Tour.

Kahnawake Gaming Commision Absolute Poker Audit Results

One of the biggest stories of 2007 in the online poker industry was the scandal at Absolute Poker. One of the employees was using a super account and was able to see hole cards and won multiple tournaments using this unfair advantage. You can read more about the allegations and how it all came about at gambling splendor.

When this happened the Kahnawake Gaming Commission which is basically a regulatory body for the online gambling sites took action. They immediately did an audit of Absolute Poker has have come up some facts and the the conclusion that this did indeed happen (there was a superuser) but it was not sanctioned or initiated by AP and they have since put in place many security measures to make sure this doesn’t happen again. They will also have to pay a half million dollars and are subject to random audits for the next two years.

Full Tilt Poker FTOPS VII

Full Tilt Poker has just announced the schedule for the 7th Full Tilt Online Poker Series. The series will comprise of 20 events (5 more events then the last FTOPS) with over $20 million dollars in guaranteed money! The series starts on February 6th and will run to Febuary 17th.

The first event will be a $750k NL Hold-em event and the FTOPS will end with a $2 million dollar No Limit Hold-em event. Check out Full tilt planet for the full FTOPS schedule.

Phil Ivey - Ivey Glue Factory at Full Tilt Poker.net

Online poker professional Phil Ivey Played FinddaGrind at the Ivey Glue Factory. This is a special table at Full Tilt Poker and is reserved for Phil Ivey, (Players can sit in and challenge him heads up) the stakes were $2000/$4000 and the poker game played was HORSE.

The average hand at the table was $8k. When I started watching Phil Ivey had $108k and in about 100 hands had $300k! A profit of $200k in about 20 minutes. Phil Ivey was in control the entire game and was able to pull in a lot of high stakes pots. I was unable to watch the entire game so FinddaGrind may have battled back.

Poker a True Sport? WSOP 11th Place

The World Series of Poker was voted the 11th most popular sport in the USA by 12,000 sports fans. This is a huge accomplishment and is very telling on how popular poker has become. I think another factor is the constant airing it gets on ESPN the most popular sports network in the world.

Poker ranked ahead of popular sports such as the Arena Football League, PBA, LPGA and more! The research was done by the marketing company Turnkey Sports & Entertainment.

German Court Over-Rules Previous Internet Gambling Ban

A German court has just over-ruled a lower courts decision on whether Bwin could provide gambling to German citizens. They over-ruled the previous ban because of the impossibility of enforcing an online gambling ban. This puts German more in line with the rest of the European Court justice system who have ruled similarly to allow internet gambling. This puts even more pressure on the US as the rest of the world seems to be going ahead with regulating the industry instead of trying to ban it.
