Shane Warne, an australian cricket player who has retired from the sport is currently trying a new game, poker. He is currently playing in the 2008 Aussie Million main event and is sponsored by 888.com. I don’t know much about him playing cricket but it seems like he doesn’t get the rules of poker because on his first day of tournament play he received a penalty. He got penalized for 5 minutes because he sent a text message during play which is prohibited at the table. Not the best start to his new career…

The main event has more then a million dollars in prize money with some of the biggest names taking part including Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, Hachem and other poker pros. The tournament is a week long and today was the second day of players starting because of the large amount of entries (most large tournaments now have multiple first days to accommodate all poker players looking to participate). Look for more updates in a couple days on the Aussie Millions 2008 action.

The 2008 WSOP will have 55 events and will begin on May 30 and run through July 16th. The World Series of Poker is the largest poker tournament in the world and has been running annually for 39 years.

Harrah’s has announced that they will not be hosting any of the WSOP tables in their casino tent.
